This is an interactive fun area to learn about Waste as a resource.
Hosted by Freegle and Sussex Green Living
Watch Trashed the film a documentary that follows Jeremy Irons through once beautiful destinations that are now converted to landfills.
Visit Sussex Green Living’s recycled stand. Pedro and his recycled robots will there playing green games and sharing ideas about how people can lead a greener life, save money and help the environment.
The stand will illustrate how “there is no such thing as rubbish just a waste resource in the wrong place”. As well as green games using up-cycled materials we will be selling beautiful merchandise which the Philippine Community Fund (PCF) make out of our waste. This money benefits poor families in Manila, helping keep their children off the landfills and instead in the PCF school!
The Sussex Green Living recycled robots will be the main focus for the ‘Waste Resource Recycling Trail competition’. This will be a trail around the exhibition, all you and your family need to do is look out for Pedro the Sussex Green Living frog who will be clinging to waste resources, (otherwise known as recyclable packaging), on the stands around the show. As you spot the items write down the stand number and read the environmental fact about the waste resource. When you have found all 10 waste resources, simply answer the final question and drop off your competition entry to the Sussex Green Living recycled stand. There will be a great green prize for the winner!
Courtesy of Take One Productions (UK) Ltd we will be playing the following videos throughout the day:
Water Conservation video aimed at 10-11 year olds.
Energy for Waste - illustrating how landfill waste is now producing energy for the national grid.
Sussex Green Living 10 sustainable living tips video.
We are supplying a ‘Waste Resource Recycling Zone’ so bring along your recycling (things the council cannot recycle), see below. These recycled waste resources will financially benefit the William Penn Primary School in Coolham, West Sussex, Sussex Wildlife Trust and the Philippine Community Fund. Ask us to explain how you can set up a scheme to benefit your chosen charity, not for profit organisation or school. Or read more information about the Sussex Greener Living recycling campaign here.

Fringe Events
Why not make a weekend of it by visiting The Eco Technology Show fringe events running in Brighton and Hove over the same weekend, offering visitors even more eco experiences from partners across the city.
These will include:
These will include:
Eco Open Houses
The 2013 Eco Open Houses network launches its largest event to date, showcasing a myriad of different properties. In visiting an Eco Open House you can learn and be inspired by the experiences of Eco Open Householders and see how significant savings can be made from fairly modest investments.
It is free to visit any of the houses and all are welcome. Some houses have to be booked, others just open their doors. On arrival you can learn about many different green build techniques from better insulation to wood burning, solar panels, water efficiency, to heating controls, all of which will save you money and make your home more efficient.
Some homes are old and show that it doesn’t take expensive renovation to cut bills: small alterations can make a big difference and reap significant savings. Others are new or may have won awards using cutting edge building techniques and fusing style with sustainability. Some are urban self builds, built as a family home by novice builders. What they all have in common is that the people living and using them have low energy and water bills, and enjoy warm healthy homes.
Eco Open Houses has been running for 5 years and is collaboration between the Low Carbon Trust, Brighton Permaculture Trust and Brighton & Hove City Council.
This year, the Low Carbon Trust showcases six Green Deal type homes in this year’s Eco Open Houses event as part of the DECC funded Green Deal Pioneer Places Project. Launched in February, the Green Deal is a new way for householders to pay for energy saving measures by removing the financial barriers of upfront costs, helping to make UK homes and buildings more warm and comfortable.
Newport Street is one of the six Green Deal Pioneer type homes, and shows how to better insulate a building’s fabric by tackling the much trickier areas of insulation such as the floor, or above the ceiling above a bay window. So why not come along to Brighton and Hove’s Eco Open Houses event and be inspired to make your home an eco home. A great way to see some of the ideas, products and services which will be exhibited at the show in situ.

'Sustain’
Sustainable fashion has become a hot topic in recent years and Brighton Fashion Weeks Sustain Show will prove that environmentally conscious fashion design is as exciting and equally as glamorous as the rest of the fashion world!
The show will promote sustainability by showcasing talented fashion designers, willing to take innovative design and ethical thinking to create their stunning collections. Brighton is the ideal location for ‘The Sustain Show’ to premier. Twelve designers will unveil their collections which test the boundaries of conformity.
The show will include emerging sustainable designers such as Rebecca Jane Taylor who was given the opportunity to design and make the Speedo Unity Dress that was unveiled at the London 2012 Olympics, Liora Lassalle a Central St Martins graduate and former Brightonian who recently won the Estethica/ Veolia Re-source competition, as well as established designers such as Fabryan a high end, luxurious womens wear label and Henrietta Ludgate with her sophisticated, structural and minimalistic designs.
In an industry that has long been challenged by social, economic and environmental concerns, we aim to explore how fashion is evolving to incorporate the global challenges of producing fabrics and clothing in an ethical manner. All of our designers challenge the prejudices about eco-fashion. So let us challenge your perceptions as we prove how easy it is to combine desirable fashion with fair principles.
This is a show not to be missed and they are offering you a 25% discount courtesy of the Eco Technology Show. To claim your discount just follow this link and use the code ‘ETS13’ in the promotional code box.
