Sainsbury's toilet roll change saves business thousands
By cutting the inner-cardboard tube on it’s own brand toilet rolls by a tiny 12mm, Sainsbury’s has managed to take a staggering 500 delivery lorries off the road, or in other words, save the equivalent of over 140,000kg of CO2.
The reduction was made as part of Sainsbury’s 20 by 20 program, aiming to cut the packaging used on its own brand items in half compared to 2005 levels. Sainsbury’s have already reduced packaging by 11% in the last 2 years and continues to make huge strides in cutting its carbon footprint as well as making genuine business savings.
Fiona Miall, toilet roll buyer for Sainsbury's said: "We are always looking for new ways to make small changes to our business that can help our customers make more sustainable choices. Our scale means that by making what seems like a relatively small packaging development, we're able to make significant carbon savings.
